RACC 2013: Goals and Schedule

The book chosen for the year's Reading Across the Campus and Community is:

Douglas Blackmon,

Slavery by Another Name: The Re-Enslavement of Black Americans from the Civil War to World War II (Anchor/Random House, New York, 2008)

This year's program is dedicated to the memory of Kenneth (Kenny) Gunn, a Political Science major in our department who was not only an outstanding student but also an incredible person.  His promising life ended tragically this year as a result of an undiagnosed heart problem.

 Format of RACC

Lectures and panel discuss will explore and discuss the events and issues described in the book.  While faculty will provide leadership, students are encouraged (even expected) take and active role in the discussions, including answering questions from other students. Each session begins with a short introduction or presentation by one or more faculty and includes student-led discussions and question and answer sessions.

Attendance/Participation in dectures, discussions, and a written essay

REQUIRED for ALL Political Science, Sociology and Criminal Justice majors

The department also maintains a blog dedicated to the RACC book and panel discussions and invites students to share their observations, reactions, questions, and other comments about these at the following address:
