Dr. Alexandra Overby is a recent transplant from Phoenix, Arizona. She received her Ph.D in Art Education from Arizona State University and is a veteran teacher of 15 years in the Phoenix-area public schools system. Her former photography students have won numerous local, national, and international awards and have scored exceptional marks in the Advanced Placement Exams. Many of her students are practicing artists in the Phoenix area.
Dr. Overby has articles published in Art Education, School Arts, and Arts and Activities. She has presented both nationally and internationally at the National Art Education Association, the International Visual Sociology Association, the Society for Photographic Educators, the Arizona Art Education Association, Arizona State University, and Florida State University.
Dr. Overby focuses her research in photography practice, visual ethnography, new technology in art education, pre-service art teachers, and art curriculum issues.
Dr. Overby helped establish collaboration work between the high school and Art Intersection Gallery (Gilbert, AZ), the Phoenix Art Museum, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Art One Gallery (Scottsdale), and the Shemer Art Museum (Scottsdale). She was an integral part of running the Gilbert Art Walk, an art event featuring the work of Gilbert area schools.
