Tamika D. Williams received a BA degree with double emphasis in May 1997, from Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena. In 1998, she enrolled at Memphis College of Art as a graduate merit scholarship recipient, and two years later, was awarded the Masters of Fine Arts degree. Prior to coming to A&M, Williams was a ten-ured Assistant Professor of Communication Design at Louisiana Tech University. She was also an art instructor and teaching assistant at Memphis College of Art.
Williams has combined her two loves, photography and design as the media through which she skillfully depicts many of the social issues prevalent in America today. An artist since the age of six, she never travels without a sketchbook, camera and laptop computer. Her art confronts the viewer head on, as it clearly and concisely exposes the truths and fallacies of American society. This contingent fact contributes to the physical presence of her work.
