The
Project Directors’ Conference for the 1890 Capacity Building Grants Programs (1890 CBGP)
hosted by Alabama A&M University for the
National Institute of Food and Agriculture
took place on
September 16-19, 2012
.
The conference offered great opportunities to meet NIFA, USDA staff, enhance understanding of award
policies and procedures, receive information on other funding opportunities within NIFA, and an opportunity to develop/enhance working relationships with other minority institutions. Furthermore, project presentations and poster sessions were held (see below).

The major objectives of this conference/workshop were to:
Introduce and increase knowledge about USDA and NIFA mission,
Build and strengthen partnerships among the workshop participants as well as with USDA,
Share project’s updates/results for and garner feedback from colleagues, partners, potential collaborators for project enhancement as a mean to enhance performance, and
Enhance understanding of workshop participants in awards management, reporting requirements, and strengthening the grantsmanship skills of the participants.
For 1890 Capacity Building Program award recipients,
this event fulfills the award’s obligation to attend at least one Project Directors’ Meetings as specified in the Request for Application (RFA). Project Directors who received 1890 CBG awards in FYs 2008 through 2011 were encouraged to participate in this conference.
