Prior to being named Interim President of Alabama A&M University in 2008, Dr. Beverly Edmond served as AAMU’s Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the position she currently holds.  An academic-practitioner with 35 years of professional experience in higher education and government service, Dr. Edmond also previously served as Vice Provost and tenured Associate Professor of Public Administration at Clark Atlanta University, where she held a series of administrative posts. Moreover, Dr. Edmond has served as an international organizational development and human resources management consultant in Africa and the U. S. Virgin Islands, as well as a consultant to more than 50 federal, state, local and non-profit organizations.

A member of editorial boards of several major journals in the field of public administration, Dr. Edmond has served two terms on the national professional accreditation organization for programs and schools of public affairs and administration.  She successfully led a departmental program through its initial accreditation and has assumed key administrative roles in two institutional regional accreditation processes. Her higher education administrative expertise has included grants management, student recruitment and retention, faculty performance evaluation and professional development, academic program review and infusion of instructional technology into the curriculum.

Dr. Edmond has chaired numerous university committees and task forces and has held various elected and appointed positions with several major professional associations and community organizations.

Dr. Edmond is the recipient of numerous awards and citations, including the National Public Service Award, a Vice Presidential National Performance Award and a Federal Meritorious Service Award. In 2000, in recognition of her long-standing support for students as a department chair, the Public Administration Student Association established the Dr. Beverly C. Edmond Book Scholarship in her honor.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Albany State University, a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Political Science with a concentration in Public Administration from Georgia State University.
