Welcome to the Office of International Programs
The Office of International Programs (OIP) serves as ombudsman for international students on campus. It also works with the U.S. Department of State and other agencies to bring international students and groups to AAMU and mobilizes the use of AAMU resources in the internationalization of our programs and activities.
OIP incorporates international dimensions into teaching, discovery and scholarship, outreach and public service programs. We have access to the best ideas and technologies regardless of where they are generated in the world. We empower our students through study abroad. We improve the lives of people in Alabama, the nation and the world by discoveries made as we expand our knowledge and experience. We are increasing international activities of faculty and professional staff by expanding their involvement in countries of the emerging democracies in Africa, Asia, Central and Latin America, the Caribbean and the New Independent States (NIS) of the former Soviet Union—the less-traveled, resource-poor parts of the world.
The University endorses the nine “Basic Principles of College and University Involvement in International Development Activities,” approved by the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges (NASULAGC), which serve as a guideline for faculty and staff involvement in international programs.
There are three major thrusts to AAMU’s international programs:
Human Resources Development
Internationalization of University Programs, including teaching, research and public service
