Dean's Message

sarkarPic.jpgThe faculty, staff, students, and alumni of the College of Business and Public Affairs (COBPA) welcome your consideration of our College for your studies.  We know that there are many programs at Alabama A&M that you can consider and many colleges and universities available to you, but we believe that for many of you, our College and our programs are the best choice.

The COBPA offers programs in a wide array of business disciplines and programs in the social sciences.  In addition to developing a strong academic background, there is an emphasis on professional development, communication skills, experiential learning, critical thinking, and other activities that will prepare students for professional careers.  Our classes are small enough for faculty to get to know students, to inspire them, and to give them individual assistance.  In addition, there are student organizations available for each major area and honor societies that give students a chance to enhance their leadership skills and to interact with professionals in their chosen fields.

All of our business programs provide students with a general business background.  Our business core is made up of introductory courses in the major business fields.  This allows business students to sample the disciplines before making a final decision on a specific business major.  There is not such a core in the social sciences, but students in those programs select a minor field that broadens their knowledge base beyond their specific major.  Thus, we are confident that our graduates have been exposed to a broad array of information and experiences that will better prepare them for professional success and for graduate and professional studies.

The COBPA is housed in a modern business school, and in historic Drake and Bibb Graves Hall.  All of our classrooms are equipped with smart rooms that give ready access to modern technology.  While the equipment is used in instruction, students are trained to use it for classroom presentations.
