Faculty/Graduate Study Suite

General Policy: Faculty/Graduate Study Suite

The AAMU LRC houses a Graduate Study Suite on the 2nd Floor in the Reference Department.  This suite helps provide workspace for faculty, dissertation and graduate students, maintaining an atmosphere conducive to quiet study.

Graduate Study Suites are only available to currently enrolled AAMU Faculty/Graduate and Dissertation students.

A valid AAMU ID card is required without exception for sign in at the Reference desk with the following guidelines.  Users must be:

  • Faculty engaged in extensive library research

  • Ph.D. candidates, currently enrolled at AAMU, in the writing stage of their doctoral dissertation

  • Emeritus faculty engaged in an ongoing research project

  • Master students, currently enrolled at AAMU, in the writing stage of their thesis

  • At this time the LRC cannot provide a Reference Librarian dedicated to any research project but feel free to ask for help with your information needs.

All library materials in the suite must be properly checked out at the Circulation desk.  LRC staff will inspect the areas periodically and any uncharged or non-circulating materials will be removed and returned to the book stacks. The inhabitants will receive a notice that uncharged material was found in the study. Subsequent violations will result in loss of privileges.

The LRC cannot provide hardware, software or technical support for personal computers and devices. Power outlets and wireless are available in the suite for your use.

  • Drinks may be consumed in the study area but must be discarded when leaving. Do not bring food into the area. Do not leave food waste in trash cans.

  • Smoking and tobacco products are strictly prohibited. Violations will result in the loss of privileges.

  • The areas are not cleaned on a regular basis, but custodial staff empty trash cans regulary.

  • Electrical items, such as coffee pots, hot plates, and space heaters, are strictly prohibited. If such items are found, they will be immediately removed by LRC staff and suite privileges will be revoked.

  • No LRC furniture or equipment may be moved from or to the suite.

  • Report any damage to the furniture, needed repairs, replacements of light bulbs, or other problems to the Reference Department immediately.

  • The suite is not sound proof.  We ask that you not bring personal stereos, iphone speakers or other music devices into the suite.  Set cell phones to vibrate and limit conversations.

  • Personal items left in the area at the end of the semester will be removed and stored unless arrangements are made in advance.    Items not picked up after a reasonable period of time, will be discarded.

The LRC is not responsible for ANY personal property left in the suite.
