• Must be a United States citizen from the Houston metropolitan area.
• Must be a graduating high school senior OR a current AAMU undergraduate student who is in good standing with the University.
• Must provide evidence of current enrollment at Alabama A&M University as a full-time student.
• Graduating high school seniors must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 and attained a score in the 50 percentile on the college entrance examination (ACT or SAT)
• Current AAMU students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.85 and completed 30 semester hrs.
• Must provide high school principal or counselor report form and at least one letter of recommendation from a community leader (e.g. pastor, teacher, etc); current AAMU students must provide a recommendation letter from advisor or dean.
• Must complete essay requirement.

Essay Criteria

• Prepare a minimal 500 word essay that describes yourself, your goals and address the following questions:
• Is there a need and role for Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the 21st Century?
• Why did you decide to attend Alabama A&M University?
• Who has been most influential in your life and why?
• How you plan to improve your community?

Scholarship Application Procedures

• Complete the scholarship application
• Submit a typed 500 word essay that address the essay criteria
• REQUEST an official copy of your latest high school or college transcript to be sent to AAMU Houston Alumni Chapter at the above P. O. address.
• SUBMIT scholarship application, essay and official copy of your transcript. 
• Ensure tht the above data is submitted by April 30, 2013
• Enclose a recent color photo of yourself (4X6 or less)
