2017 Alumna of the Year

Leticia Drakeford is a 1997 graduate of Alabama A&M University where she received a B.S. in Chemistry. She also received a M.S. in Analytical Chemistry from Clark Atlanta University.

 

She is employed with the  U.S. Department of the Treasury in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area where she led and revamped the Scientific Services Division’s Safety Program.  She manages the $7 million capital asset inventory located in the Maryland and California laboratory facilities. Through her leadership the results of the 2016 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey noted an increase in employee satisfaction with worker safety, which was partly attributed to her leadership in enhancing safety awareness at the laboratory.  As a chemist, Ms. Drakeford has been invited by community organizations, churches and schools to participate in STEM Fairs and other panel discussions in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

 

Ms. Drakeford is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Prince George’s County Alumnae Chapter.

Ms. Drakeford is currently serving as Northeast Regional Vice-President of the National Alumni Association, of which she is a life member.  She has served in several leadership roles with the organization. Her service continues within the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Alumni Chapter, as its current corresponding secretary and chairperson of the Chapter’s College Fair and Student Recruitment Committee. Additionally, Ms. Drakeford is also AAMU Office of Admissions and Enrollment Certified Alumni Recruiter.


Ms. Drakeford is the recipient of several awards for her work in the National Alumni Association, the Washington, DC, Metropolitan Alumni chapter and other non-profit organizations She attends Reid Temple AME Church in Glenn Dale, MD.


The daughter of Luetta J. Drakeford and the late Willie J. Drakeford, this Andalusia, Alabama-raised professional continues to demonstrate the words “Service is Sovereignty” through her valuable contributions to her profession, community and the Alumni Association on the local and national levels.
