Requirements for Admission
Admission standards for the Department are consistent with the graduate school's admission policy. Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree and have a minimum GPA of 2.50, and have satisfactory scores on the GRE.
Degree Requirements
Core Courses for All Degree Programs:
- PSY 502 - Descriptive and Inferential Behavioral Statistics
- PSY 556 - Group Dynamics
- PSY 559 - Counseling Theory/Techniques
- PSY 585 - Research in Psychology and Counseling
Degree Programs
Clinical - The M.S. in Clinical requires a minimum of 45 semester hours (including core courses). Prerequisites may be required.
Counseling - The M.S. in counseling requires a minimum of 48 semester hours (including core courses).
Personnel - The M.S. in Personnel requires a minimum of 39 semester hours (including core courses).
Rehabilitation Counseling - The M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling requires a minimum of 48 semester hours (including core courses).
School Counseling - The M.S. in School Counseling requires a minimum of 42 semester hours (including core courses).
School Psychometry - The M.S. in School Psychometry requires a minimum of 39 semester hours (including core courses).
School Counseling "AA" - Double (AA) certification requires a minimum of 33 semester hours.
School Psychology "AA" - Double (AA) certification requires a minimum of 33 semester hours.
Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) - The Ed.S. degree requires a minimum of 30 semester hours beyond the master's degree. Thesis is required.
Comprehensive Examinations
All students earning the M.S. degree must pass a written comprehensive examination in their specific area of concentration if the thesis option is not selected.
Satisfactory Progress
Effective Fall 1994, an evaluation policy affecting all majors was implemented. This policy is in keeping with principles and accepted standards of professional responsibility and interpersonal skills that are consistent with the APA and ACA Code of Conduct.
If a student fails to make satisfactory progress toward the degree, permission may be denied to continue the program. This decision may be reached by the advisory committee, a committee in the department, and recommended to the Graduate School.
