MISSION
The Department of Agribusiness, as a unit of the School of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, functions in the land-grant tradition of teaching, research, and extension by providing baccalaureate and graduate studies that are compatible with the times and within the reach of all qualified and capable individuals who are interested in further developing their technical and professional skills and competencies The department endeavors to provide a cohesive, dynamic, forward looking and market-driven educational process for the emergence of scholars, leaders, thinkers, and other contributors to society. Specifically, the Department is committed to: 1. Excellence in
education and creation of a scholarly environment in which inquiring and
discriminating minds may be nourished. DEGREE REQUIREMENTS The graduate program leading to the M.S. degree in Agribusiness is designed to meet the needs of candidates who wish to pursue careers in agribusiness or related industries. Its flexibility provides candidates the opportunity to concentrate in areas of their individual interests. Each candidate in the program will be required to take an eight-course core program and select four other courses from the list of electives. There is a thesis option and a non-thesis option. Candidates electing the thesis option must write an acceptable thesis after meeting the course requirements. Those electing the non-thesis option must take two additional courses to bring the total of credits to 36 hours and write an acceptable research paper. hrs PARTIAL LIST OF ELECTIVES AGB 509 Advanced Studies 3 sem. hrs AGRISCIENCE EDUCATION The Department of Agribusiness, in cooperation with the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Educational Leadership and the School of Graduate Studies, offers a curriculum leading to the Master's and Educational Specialist degrees in curriculum, teaching and educational leadership with a major in Agriscience Education. The programs are designed to help the candidates accomplish the following: 1. Achieve broader foundational
knowledge and understanding in the field of education. ADMISSION The admission requirements for all the programs in Agriscience Education are the same as those outlined under the general requirements for admission to the School of Graduate Studies. Additional requirements are related to particular programs as noted. All candidates are required to be admitted to the Teacher Education Program. ADVISEMENT After the candidate is admitted to the appropriate graduate study program, a major advisor is assigned. The advisor ascertains the candidate's needs and interests and assists in planning and implementing a program in keeping with the unique pattern of needs, interests, goals, potentialities, and capabilities. Because of changes in the State Department of Education guidelines and regulations, which result in program changes, students are advised to check with the department regarding the latest State-approved checklist for programs. MASTER'S DEGREE PROGRAM Candidates must complete a minimum of 36 semester hours of graduate credit including the following core courses: AGB 508 or AGB 521, EDU 542 or FED 600 or **EDU 532, *SPE 501. Six (6) additional hours are to be selected from the following: FED 501 or EDU 573 or FED 521 or PSY 514 or SPE 530 or SED 527 or **EDU 531, EDU 536 or EDU 690, EDU 502, FED 503, *FED 529 and advisor-approved electives 1-3 semester hours. Candidates must complete 12 semester hours of advisor-approved Agriculture courses. FIFTH-YEAR PROGRAM Candidates must complete a minimum of 39 semester hours of graduate credit including the following core courses: FED 501, EDU 502, FED 503, SPE 501, EDU 514, SED 527, EDU 542, or FED 600, EDU 536 and EDU 615. Candidates must complete 12 semester hours of advisor-approved 500 level courses in Agriculture. EDUCATIONAL SPECIALIST DEGREE PROGRAM IN CURRICULUM, TEACHING AND EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP Candidates must complete a minimum of 39 semester hours of credit including the following core courses: AGB 508 or AGB 522 or AGB 603 or AGB 616, EDU 542 or 530 or EDU 521 or EDU 573, EDU 536 or EDU 690, and EDU 699. The student can choose 6 semester hours of advisor-approved electives or take **FED 529 and FED 531. Candidates must complete 12 semester hours of advisor-approved Agriculture courses. *See advisor for possible exemption.
