Class of 1968 Leads Way in $300K Reunion Weekend

They came … they gave!  Alumni representing class years ending in 3’s and 8’s came home and made a tremendous impact during Reunion Weekend, which is celebrated in conjunction with the founding of Alabama A&M University.  After an evening of dinner, music, and strolling down memory lane, the classes presented checks totaling more than $300,000 to AAMU, including more than $141,000 from the Golden Class of 1968.  These totals set new records for individual class giving and overall reunion weekend.  President Andrew Hugine, Jr, noted the exceptional work of the staff to continue to raise the bar for the annual events.  Hugine said, “Alabama A&M is appreciative of the financial support of more than $300,000 provided for students and programmatic initiatives.  The Division of Marketing, Communication & Advancement, led by Archie Tucker, II, is to be commended for the unit’s level of persistence and dedication in accomplishing this feat.”


This year’s total was nearly a 100% increase over the 2017 Reunion Weekend.  When asked what distinguished the 2018 Reunion Weekend from those of previous years, Tucker mentioned the commitment and tenacity of the alumni affairs staff.  “Planning for this event began when the last one ended.  In Marketing, Communication & Advancement, we create experiences, and that is certainly what Mrs. Stubbs, Director of Alumni Affairs, and her team were able to do for Reunion Weekend 2018”, says Tucker.  Planning for 2019 has already began.  If you are interested in being a class agent, please contact the Office of Alumni Affairs at 256-372-5285.
