The world-renown Alabama A&M University Choir has been invited to be presented in concert by the Distinguished Concerts International of New York (DCINY) on Saturday, April 12, in Alice Tully Hall at the Lincoln Center in New York City at 7 p.m.
The Choir's appearance, said its interim director, Dr. Horace Carney, marks the first time that DCINY has presented a a historically black college or university
(HBCU) in concert. The AAMU Choir was selected by music professionals after an audition of several choirs, Carney added.
Dr. Carney noted that such an honor "requires a lot of rehearsing and preparation, as well as money." The AAMU choral group has continued to acquire superior ratings and standing ovations at performances nationwide. The Lincoln Center trip will encompass an additional and subsequent performance in Boston, Mass., on Palm Sunday, April 13, spearheaded by alumna Evelyn Lee Jones.
