Councill Challenge Campaign

Over a decade ago, AAMU embarked upon an initiative to enrich its historic tradition of excellence in teaching, research and public service.  Recognizing the need to substantially under gird the resources provided by the uncertain State appropriations, the University launched the Councill Challenge.

The initially 15-year, $50 million campaign became the “key” through which the University unlocked the door to the vast legacy of AAMU’s founding father, Dr. William Hooper Councill.  Its aim was to ensure a well-sustained and vibrant institution that would continue to serve as a beacon of hope and aspiration.

During its first year, through the support and generosity of its corporate, alumni, faculty, staff, and community friends, the Councill Challenge Campaign successfully raised the highest level of annual private contributions in the chronicles of AAMU. As an expression of sincere gratitude and indomitable school spirit, AAMU introduced the Distinguished Donor Clubs.

These clubs recognize the benevolence of all University supporters during each year of the Campaign. This program opens the door to new levels of giving opportunities for all supporters of the AAMU saga.

To learn more about the various giving levels and opportunities, please call (256) 372-5286.
