Research and Development serves as the major unit responsible for the administration, promotion and coordination of the University's program for research and institutional advancement. The Office implements the established priorities, goals and policies as defined in the University's lon-range strategic plan and maintains oversight responsibilities for the implementation of the University's extramural and intramural research programs and related incentives plans.
The Office of Research and Development oversees the administrative unit necessary for effective public relations and institutional image enhancement [Development and Alumni Affairs, INformation and Public Relations, and Telecommunications], and is firmly committed to advancing these important functions for the betterment of Alabama A&M University and its constituents.
VISION
Alabama A&M University will be among the top five Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the nation in funded research program activities. Alabama A&M University also will be a leader among all institutions of higher learning in serving its alumni, attracting corporate and foundation donations, and communicating with its constituencies via media of all forms.
GOAL
By the year 2000, the research faculty, graduate students, all departments, and all academic schools will have measurably increased their involvement in research and sponsored programs. Additionally, by the year 2000, the University will enjoy a measurable increase in participating alumni, foundation donations, circulation of public relations publications, and telecommunications network growth and usage. To support the overall research effort and encourage logn-term stable funding commitments through facility and equipment enhancement, improved research management, and strengthened faculty and administrative involvement.
To serve the University and its various constituencies by ensuring regular and effective communications of the University's strengths and accomplishments. To encourage the highest level of efficiency and professionalism through increased staff training and professional development. To develop information highway linkages to connect the University to the national and international academic community for the benefit of students, faculty and staff.
