NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION (NSF) TRAVEL AWARD
Students of Agronomy, Soils and Environmental Sciences (SASES)
The goal of the National Science Foundation (NSF) Travel Award Grant is to engage emerging scientists as undergraduate students and expose them to the professional environment at the American Society of Agronomy (ASA), Crop Science Society of America (CSSA) and Soil Science Society of America (SSSA) [ASA-CSSA-SSSA] National meetings. The program includes mentoring, research, presentation and follow-up components. Society members selected by the students or otherwise identified will serve as mentors and will help selected student recipients engage in the events and functions available at the meetings.
Twelve highly motivated undergraduate students (seniors and juniors) will be selected annually for two years. The award recipients will be paired with their mentors who will assist in the preparation of posters to be presented at the meetings.
This Travel Award will also aid in recruiting students into STEM graduate programs. Thus, the ASA-CSSA-SSSA societies are committed to developing U.S. leadership in the agronomic, crop and soil sciences and related areas of technology by facilitating the development of underserved scholars. To achieve this goal, ASA-CSSA-SSSA in partnership with member scientists from the eighteen 1890 Land-Grant HBCUs and other non-HBCUs, aim to increase participation of a greater number of underrepresented undergraduate students at the annual meetings and ultimately in the STEM disciplines.
