As an international student, you’re an important part of the Alabama A&M University (AAMU) community. Our mission as a land-grant university has expanded from serving the community around us to serving—and learning from—the global community. We empower our students through study abroad. We embrace students from abroad and learn from them. We improve the lives of people in Alabama, the nation and the world by making discoveries as we expand our international knowledge and experience.

At AAMU, you’ll be part of a student body that is racially, ethnically, socioeconomically and religiously diverse. Our faculty comes from around the world. We believe this international diversity makes us stronger, more durable, more able to serve the interests of our students, faculty, community and, ultimately, the future. The wide variety of ideas, attitudes and beliefs to which you’ll be exposed will expand your worldview and train you to be a citizen in a democratic and global society.

When you come to AAMU as an international student, you’ll have the support of the Office of International Programs (OIP) and the International Student Association (ISA). The OIP provides you with the information, resources and assistance you need to succeed as you begin your academic career at AAMU, from questions concerning immigration regulations to university policies to employment or travel questions. The ISA provides guidance and accommodates the special needs of international students, including organizing activities each semester to help socialize its members with each other and with the campus at large.

One of the best ways to become acclimated is to get involved. Numerous organizations, programs, and events are available for you to meet other students, practice English, learn leadership skills, volunteer on campus and in the community, and join student clubs and organizations.

You are either a citizen of the U.S. who wants the experience of studying in another country or a foreign student who wants to study at AAMU. Whichever, we’ll do everything we can to make your stay a pleasant one.
