Carrying on the Normalite Tradition of Productive Leadership

Huntsville, Ala. ---- The Alabama A&M University Alumni Association, Inc., has announced its new leadership for the next two years.  On Saturday, August 8, Mary Jones Moore ’83, of Harvest, Ala., replaced Albert Benifield, Jr., ’78, as the newly elected president of the more than 40,000-member body.  Jones serves as a test engineer with KBR Government Solutions.

“I am pleased to take over the reign as president of the AAMU National Alumni Association,” Moore said.  “First, as always, I ask God to please guide my footsteps. I look forward to working with all of the newly installed and appointed officers, as well as serving the alumni collectively. Together, we can make our Alma Mater proud, for I am truly a believer that Service is Sovereignty!”

In addition to President Moore, the Association’s membership elected (pictured above, l-r) Dr. Terrance Vickerstaff (procurement analyst, Department of the Army) of Harvest, Ala., vice president; Chiquita Goodloe Suggs, (cost/budget analyst, Marshall Space Flight Center/NASA) Madison, Ala., financial secretary; Youlanda Caudle, (supervisory human resources specialist, Department of the Army) Huntsville, Ala, recording secretary; and Karen Howze-Samuels, (billings & ops analyst, AT&T Communications) Birmingham, Ala., treasurer.

Seven alumni (above) will fill posts as regional vice presidents of Regions 1-7.  The positions are held (l-r) by the following:  Region 1 – Erica McClain, (contract specialist, Department of the Army) Madison, Ala.; Region 2 – retired educator Sarah Hrobowski, Mobile, Ala.; Region 3 – Keshia Appkins, (realtor, Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers) Atlanta, Ga.; Region 4 – Roderick Hudson, (project manager, Parsons) Corona, Calif; Region 5 – Shundreka Givan, (project development team leader, USDOT-Federal Highway Administration) Jackson, Miss.; Region 6 – Leonard Phillips, (customer service management, DTE) Detroit, Mich.; and Region 7 – Jamal Ali, (associate account director, Burrell Advertising) Alexandria, Va.

Another seven alumni (above, l-r) will serve as members at large on the AAMU Alumni Association, Inc., board.  These positions are held by:  Michael Miller, (president/CEO, MJT Integrated Systems Solutions/ Government Contractor) Madison, Ala.; Phyllis Gordon, (retired educator, Managing Partner – Ivy Vine Training Services, LLC.) Atlanta, Ga.; C. Lamar Sterns, Sr., (security manager, Department of the Army) Madison, Ala.; retiree Melza Cook, Atlanta, Ga.; CDC retiree Sharron Parker-Orum, Atlanta, Ga.; Dr. Claudette C. Owens, (president/CEO, Quantus Link, LLC; retired engineer – U.S. Army Civilian) Decatur, Ala.; and Vanessa Patterson, (teacher, Clark County Board of Education) Thomasville, Ala.
