COVID & Comfort in Public Settings

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System at Alabama A&M University launched a new educational campaign called AL Voices for Vaccines. The campaign includes community surveying and educational activities. The campaign also helps residents locate COVID-19 vaccine clinics in 11 counties across the state.

Persons can participate in the AL Voices for Vaccines project by completing a five-minute survey at https://auburn.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_abfbyTJNm1MFa9E.  This survey is designed to assess barriers that are preventing people from accessing COVID-19 vaccines.

Additionally, the public is invited to attend town hall discussions and vaccine clinics this fall in Madison, Jefferson, Mobile, Lauderdale, Houston, Dallas, Marengo, Perry, Hale, Greene, and Montgomery counties.

The principal investigator of this project, Tamara Warren, is specifically targeting limited-resource communities.

“Limited-resource communities are more affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Warren said. “With help from statewide partners dedicated to improving public health, this project will help people feel more comfortable gathering in social settings.”

Project Support

AL Voices for Vaccines is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the United States Department of Agriculture, in partnership with the national Extension Foundation. The Extension Foundation manages the grant program through the national campaign Extension Collaborative on Immunization Training and Education (EXCITE).

EXCITE implementation requires a wide range of partners. Partners for this project include both Alabama Extension and the Harrison School of Pharmacy at Auburn University, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Alabama Department of Public Health, and other medical and faith-based organizations across the state.

For more information, contact Tamara Warren at (256) 424-3088 or  e-mail tcw0004@aces.edu for more information. Also, visit the AL Voices for Vaccines webpage at https://www.aces.edu/blog/tag/voices-for-vaccines/ for updated information about this project.
