Making Campus Better

What would you do to make your campus better?  Three Alabama A&M University students recently emerged as winners in Vulcan Material Company’s “ThinkBIG 2020” pitch presentations honing in on that exact question.

The top three prizes were awarded to Gary Manning, junior English major, 3rd Place, $1,500; Cailyn Holloway, sophomore communications media major, 2nd Place, $2,500; and Georgiana Wright, sophomore computer science major, 1st Place, $4,000.

Manning pitched the formation of classes that explain the history of persons with significant impact on the successes of AAMU.  Holloway pitched a university partnership with organizations that would allow students to rent or purchase filming equipment, while first place winner Wright pitched her “Golden” internet app that allows creatives to showcase their work without a lot or money or a studio.

The contest was facilitated by AAMU’s Career Development Services and was offered by Vulcan’s TheYARD initiative.  The autumn competition is usually held at the Magic City Classic in Birmingham, Ala., but it was held virtually this year.
