Youth Service at Huntsville Library

Children show-off drawings made in Chinese class at HPLIn order to enrich the after-school experiences of Huntsville-area elementary students, the Confucius Institute at AAMU, in cooperation with the Huntsville Madison County Public Library, has begun a program to provide Chinese Language teaching to after-school students from 1st grade to 12th grade, two times a week, during the Spring, Summer, and Fall terms. In this program, students learn the basic knowledge of the Mandarin Chinese language, such as greetings, nationalities, self-introduction, etc.

This course is designed to be a long-term program to support the local community in Huntsville. It provides an excellent opportunity for young students who are interested in Chinese language and culture to get a close look at a totally different Asian country, China, compared with American culture. It usually lasts for 10-20 weeks per term. After two or three terms, students can demonstrate basic Chinese proficiency: self-introduction, small talk, and giving a presentation in Mandarin Chinese.

The class usually meets at 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., every Tuesday & Thursday.
Class location: Huntsville Madison County Public Library (Downtown Location)
Spring term: March to May
Summer term: June & July
Autumn term: September to November
