AAMU Raises Nearly $30 Million in First-ever Capital Campaign

 

 

Huntsville, Ala. ---- Alabama A&M University officially closed the books on its first-ever capital campaign by raising $27.3 million. The seven-year, comprehensive campaign provided the University with a much-needed financial boost that impacted the entire campus, including student scholarships, academic programs, facilities, technology upgrades, athletics, and student services.

 

The campaign was chaired by former board member and Alabama Power executive, John O. Hudson, III, a 1996 graduate of Alabama A&M, along with the staff of Marketing, Communication & Advancement, led by Vice President Archie Tucker, II.  The campaign total of $27.3 million surpassed the original goal of $16.25 million by 68 percent.

 

“This campaign has been transformational for Alabama A&M University,” said Dr. Andrew Hugine, Jr., AAMU President.  “The capital campaign has not only increased awareness of the institution and provided millions of dollars in support, but it has greatly improved the culture of giving at Alabama A&M.” 

Other campaign highlights include:

  • 270 percent increase in giving during the campaign from $7.38 million to $27.3 million

  • 60 percent increase in the average gift from $858 to $1,376

  • 172 percent increase in total gifts from 7,319 to 19,891

  • 137 percent increase in total donors from 4,681 to 11,075

Additionally, alumni giving increased over the course of the campaign from 1 percent to 11.5 percent, which surpasses the national average of 8.1 percent for all institutions throughout the country, according to the Voluntary Support of Education’s 2016 publication. 

 

“The success of this campaign is a testament to the leadership of President Hugine, John Hudson, and the advancement staff, who worked diligently to ensure substantial resources were raised to support our students and programs,” noted Tucker. “AAMU expresses our sincere appreciation to all donors for investing in our future, and we look forward to your continued support.”
