Finding a need and filling it. That phrase has become a cornerstone for entrepreneurship, although the person who coined it was likely speaking much more pragmatically.

Nonetheless, three Alabama A&M University students saw a pressing need for busy AAMU students to get their information while on the run and to get that info from one place. So, in just days, they developed a mobile app for iPhones that capsulizes campus information and conveniently places it in students’ palms.

Californian and sophomore Michael Battle provided graphic design assistance to brothers Andre Coward and Roger Rhodes, both computer science majors from Las Vegas, Nev. The process, say the brothers, took about a week. Coward was
working on another project that turned out to be more difficult than he expected. When he decided to work on another project that would bring about more immediate returns, Bulldog Buzz was born.

“It’s a fully functional app that keeps students informed,” notes Rhodes, a freshman, who has also used Vegas as a springboard for dallying into the clothing business.

Rhodes and Coward say the new app offers students quick info on campus sports, the campus bus schedule, various campus events and updates, as well as an interactive blackboard dubbed ‘What’s the Buzz?’

“AAMU students can try the app by visiting Apple’s app store and typing in ‘Bulldog Buzz,’” says Coward. “It’s free.”

The brothers say they shared the news with one student and are surprised by the number of students who have already downloaded the app and the app’s popularity on Twitter.
