Black Tie Scholarship Gala April 24th



Huntsville, Ala. ---- Alabama A&M University will honor community leaders and businesses that have made significant contributions to higher education and BlackTieLogoGeneric2.png
student life during its 14th annual Black Tie Scholarship Gala. The formal event will be held in the Von Braun Center-North Hall at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, April 24.  A silent auction will precede the Gala at 5:15 p.m.


The event co-chairs are Wells Fargo Bank and First Missionary Baptist Church, while AAMU alumnus DeWayne Carter of Birmingham, Ala., has been designated honorary chairperson.  The evening's 2014 theme, “Showcasing Tomorrow's Leaders,” will set the stage for a program punctuated by the Mississippi-based R&B bank Velvet Soul.  Malena Cunningham, former television news anchor and current president/CEO, Strategic Media Relations, Birmingham, Ala., will serve as emcee.


Additionally, Gala awards will be presented in recognition of achievements in the following categories:  Small Organization of the Year (MJT Integrated Systems Solutions, Inc.); Large Organization of the Year (Huntsville Hospital); and the Diversity Award (Lockheed).  The Koinonia Award (St. Luke Christian Church), which recognizes an individual and/or religious organization that has created a mutually beneficial partnership with Alabama A&M and/or its students, also will be presented.   


“Now in its 14th year, the Gala has raised approximately $2 million since its inception and has impacted the lives of numerous students,” says Archie Tucker II, AAMU's interim vice president for marketing, communications and advancement.  “This is sure to be an evening to remember.”
