Three Years of Transformation under AAMU President’s Leadership

Huntsville, Ala. ---- In the first three years of his administration, Dr. Andrew Hugine and his team have helped Alabama A&M University achieve national rankings by top publications, raise over $10 million in private funds and corporate donations, successfully remove the University from probation by SACS and hire the first female campus Police Chief.

“The past three years have presented both challenges and opportunities for HugineOfficialsmall.jpg
Alabama A&M University. We have had to wrestle with providing quality educational programs in the face of drastic reduction in financial support from the state,” says Dr. Hugine.

Despite financial cutbacks, Dr. Hugine says the University has continued to offer affordable, quality educational programs for students as well as hire and maintain faculty members who conduct cutting-edge research and provide highly effective instruction infused with technology.

To highlight the achievements, the University has released a first-term progress report“The accomplishments summarized are the result of the hard work of a committed and dedicated administrative leadership team and a supportive faculty and staff,” says Dr. Hugine.

The summary of accomplishments looks at nine (9) major focus areas from educational programs and quality of student life, to fund development, fiscal stability and enhanced physical resources to university engagement.

There have been a number of high-level partnerships as well.  They include, signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in partnership with Auburn University, signing a mentor-protégé agreement with NASA/Pratt Whitney Rocketdyne which was only the third such agreement with an historically black college or university, and allocating instruction space on Redstone Arsenal for distance education courses.

“These achievements reflect what can happen when the leadership of the University, the Board of Trustees and the administration continue to work in tandem,” says Dr. Hugine. “There is much to be done, but the future of Alabama A&M is indeed much greater than the past.”
