Student Setting Sites on Study in Croatia

Kennedy Copeland is a young woman with large, even global, dreams.  The 4.0 junior political science major at Alabama A&M University hails from Atlanta, Ga., but has set her sights on changing the world.

Kennedy’s brief bio is indicative of the kind of student who has taken every possible step to ensure the success she has achieved thus far.  For instance, Kennedy is a member of Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society, the AAMU Honors Program, a recipient of the Freshman President’s Award and Gold Medallion. Moreover, she is a member of the AAMUite Yearbook Staff, the Business Industry Student Cluster and serves as peer tutor for the Tutorial Assistance Network.

Right now, however, Kennedy’s major challenge is hastily coming up with the additional $7,500 needed to fully participate in the Academic Program Croatia.jpg
International (API) study abroad program this spring semester at Libertas International University in Dubrovnik, Croatia.  Once the hurdle has been overcome, Kennedy will take courses in such subjects as comparative political systems, international organizations, international relations, Croatian language and theories, as well as principles of diplomacy.

“Kennedy is one of the top performing, best prepared and most academically well-rounded students in our program,” said Shannon Frank Reeves, Sr., coordinator of AAMU’s political science program.  “As a 4.0 student, she has done all the right things, made all the right decisions, prepared herself in all the right ways and is focused in the right direction to achieve her goals.”

Reeves admits, however, that time is the greatest enemy.  We must satisfy all financial obligations, get Kennedy on a plane, and have her in Croatia ready for classes by February 1,” stated Reeves.

To assist with the cost of tuition, fees, and expenses for this once in a lifetime opportunity, a “GoFundMe” page has been established ( to supplement the energetic efforts underway by Kennedy, her parents and others.

The AAMU Family, alumni and friends are urged to join the cause by clicking on the link above or immediately making a check payable to the AAMU Foundation, 115 Chase Road NW, Huntsville, AL  35811.

“This AAMU student’s scholarly pursuits hang in the balance and I have faith we are not going to let her down,” commented Reeves.  “However, time is running out. Make an investment and sow a seed into Kennedy’s life today. Your support and prayers will make the difference and be greatly appreciated.”
