Huntsville, Ala. ---- Alabama A&M University will holds its Sixth Annual Veterans Day Program Tuesday, November 8, at 12 noon in the Clyde Foster Auditorium of the College of Business and Public Affairs. The 2011 theme is “Honoring Our Own.”
Montgomery, Ala., native Colonel Micheal J. Coleman will be the guest speaker for the event. The 1975 AAMU graduate earned the B.S. degree in business administration. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Adjutant
General Corps in December 1975 and entered active duty January 6, 1976. His assignments included tours as Assistant Adjutant General and Chief Enlisted Personnel Management Section, 2d Support Command, Stuttgart, Germany; Adjutant and Assistant Operations Officer, Raleigh District Recruiting Command, Raleigh, North Carolina; Commander/Adjutant Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment U.S Army, Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) Support Group, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama; and Adjutant Headquarters Command, U.S. Army Element, Allied Land Forces Southeastern Europe, Izmir, Turkey.
Additional assignments include Account Manager, Officer Distribution Division, Total Army Personnel Command, Alexandria, Virginia; Chief, Administrative Executive Division, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, Department of the Army, Washington, D.C.; Assistant Secretary of the General Staff Allied Land Forces Southeastern Europe, Izmir, Turkey; Adjutant General, U.S. Army Military District of Washington, Fort Lesley J. McNair, Washington, D.C.; and Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel, U.S. Army, Operational, Test and Evaluation Command (OPTEC), Alexandria, Virginia; Battalion Commander, United States Army Element (USAE), Allied Land Forces Southeastern Europe, Izmir, Turkey; and Director, Personnel and Training Directorate, U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.
Colonel Coleman holds a Master of Arts (MA) Degree from Webster University, St. Louis, Missouri. He is also a graduate of the National Defense University, Armed Forces Staff College, Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase II Course; U.S. Army Command and General Staff College; and the Adjutant General Officers’ Advanced and Basic courses. His military awards include the Legion of Merit, First Oak Leaf Cluster; the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Second Oak Leaf Cluster; Meritorious Service Medal, Fourth Oak Leaf Cluster; The Army Commendation Medal, Third Oak Leaf Cluster; The Joint Service Achievement Medal; The National Defense Ribbon; The Army Staff Identification Badge; The Army Parachute Badge; and the Army Superior Unit Badge.
He is married to the former Carolyn Ann Howard, and they have two sons, Paris (PJ) and Casey. Also they are blessed with a grandson, Jadan. Colonel Coleman is currently working with the U.S. Army Cadet Command as a JROTC instructor with Lee High School in Huntsville, Alabama.
