The Office of Distance Education/e-Learning (ODEeL)
The Office of Distance Education/e-Learning is very busy enhancing the e-learning program for use by traditional and nontraditional learners both on and off campus. Our two-fold objective is to increase number and quality of both online courses and the resources needed for faculty course developers to meet that goal. With a full slate of workshops, hands-on technical skills laboratories and a few mini-conferences in the works, there are myriad opportunities for faculty, staff and students alike to delve into and explore the exciting world of e-learning!
The online course certification program recently launched assesses the technical, logistical and pedagogical quality of online course curriculum in all areas of academic study. In AAMU's certification program model, faculty peer reviewer/mentors provide support, guidance and incremental assessment of the online course being developed prior to its final assessment for certification by ODE/eL staff. Faculty peer reviewers/mentors receive specialized training and opportunities for development, opportunities for beta-testing software and hardware and prioritized assessments in the certification process.
The Office of Distance Education/e-Learning (ODEeL) will be offering at least nine workshops and twenty-seven hands-on practical e-skills development laboratories during the current fiscal year. In addition to scheduled learning opportunities, Tess Beebe Olten is available for departmental, team or one-on-one consultations on all topics related to e-learning.
Our 2012 workshop schedule can be referenced HERE and those interested in attending are encouraged to register as soon as possible HERE. Registration is required ONLY for the morning workshops, not for the open hands-on labs. If you hover over the workshop titles, you will see the learning objectives for each. We look forward to seeing you in our workshops and open hands-on labs!
Finally, the ODEeL welcomes two new staff! Everett Alexander will be managing the digital media production activities and Melaine Fowler has joined us as a graduate assistant. Both are extremely knowledgeable and ready to help!
