For the third year in a row Alabama A&M University has been ranked among the nation’s best by Washington Monthly Magazine.  In the recently released 2014 guide, Alabama A&M University is ranked # 33 out of 671 master’s degree granting institutions.  Three other HBCUs make the top 50, Hampton University is number 24; Alcorn State University ranks number 41; and North Carolina Central placed 42nd.

Rather than using the traditional ranking tools of alumni giving, or resource availability, Washington Monthly ranks institutions on, “their contributions to the public good in three broad categories; social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students),  research (producing cutting-edge scholarships and Ph.ds), and service (encouraging students to give something back to their country).

“The rankings confirm and validate our commitment to access and opportunity as well as our effectiveness in graduating students,” says President Andrew Hugine.
