Ms. Rakesha Hines is the Interim Director of Residential Life and Housing. She joined the team in August, 2011, assisting with the daily operation of the residence halls and maintaining the programming initiatives for the residence life staff. Ms. Hines provides leadership and supervision to the Resident Assistant staff, Residence Hall Directors, and the Area Coordinators. She is a graduate of Alabama A&M University where she received a B.A in Psychology. Ms. Hines also obtained a M.A. in Mental Health Counseling from Eastern Kentucky Univ. She has been working in Higher Education for 5 years, and is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Mental Health Counseling Association, ACPA, NASPA, and various other Housing Associations, including KAHO, SEAHO, KARH, NRHH, and the Association for Student Conduct Administration Kentucky Drive-In.
Valerie Sykes-Burks - Housing Coordinator
Ms. Valerie Sykes-Riles is the Housing Coordinator in the Office of Residential Life and Housing. She has served in her current position for 10 years and at the University for thirty years. Ms. Riles is a 1980 graduate of Alabama A&M University with a B.S. in Business Education. She is a proud alumnus and executive board member of the Alabama A&M University Bulldog Club. Ms. Riles is primarily responsible for the housing application process and room assignments for the residence halls.
Karen McDavis, Area Coordinator – Female Residence Halls
Karen McDavis is an Area Coordinator for the Office of Residential Life and Housing. She was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology in May, 1980 from Alabama A&M University. Karen has been employed with the University since 1997 in various roles in the area of Residential Life. She works very closely with the Resident Assistant Program and derives much gratification from assisting in the development of the students and contributing to their success. Karen is also active in the campus community, serving on various committees.
Brandon Willis, Normal Hills Student Apartments Property Manager
Brandon Willis is the Property Manager for Normal Hills Student Apartments. He was awarded a B.A. degree in Mass Communications/ Public Relations from Grambling State University (LA.) in 2000. His professional career includes stints in media relations and sports information at Grambling State University, Southern University, and Alabama A&M University. Mr. Willis works very closely with the Director of Residential Life and Housing on a consistent basis to create a Living Environment that not only suits the needs of the students but a place the students can call home.
Jason Powell, Normal Hills Student Apartments - Maintenance
Managing the maintenance requirements of sizeable residential complex such as Normal Hills Student Apartments is a major undertaking.
