Degree Offerings

The Department offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs.  The undergraduate program leads to the baccalaureate degree in Family and Consumer Sciences in one of three undergraduate majors:

  1. Apparel, Merchandising and Design (with concentrations in Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising);

  2. Human Development and Family Studies;

  3. or Nutrition and Hospitality Management (with concentrations in General Dietetics and Hospitality Management).

The bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education is offered collaboratively with the College of Education.  Minors in each program area and an 18-hour online minor in Family Financial Planning extend departmental offerings to students with related interests.

The Department is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.  Additionally, the General Dietetics program of the Nutrition and Hospitality Management area is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association, and the online program in Financial Planning is registered with the Certified Financial Planners Board of Standards, Inc.

The graduate program in FCS leads to the MS degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with a concentration in one of three areas: Apparel, Merchandising and Design; Human Development and Family Studies; or Nutrition and Hospitality Management.  Students have the choice of pursuing the thesis or non-thesis option.
