Welcome to the Department of Food and Animal Sciences website. The objective of this site is to provide you with sufficient information to satisfy your curiosity about our programs. I will be more than happy to provide you with any added information that you seek. Let me give you an overview of our Department and its programs.
The Department was founded in 1969 with a mission that is embedded in the mission of our School and University. Currently, we have two program areas: animal science and food science and technology. The BS, MS and Ph.D. degrees are offered in the food science program and the BS degree in animal science. The food science program is an Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) certified program.
I will not hesitate to tell you that we have some of the best and brightest students currently enrolled in our Department. During my short stint as the steward of this Department, our students have been given top billings in academic, industrial and professional circles. They have lived up to our expectations and we will continue to train and motivate them to maintain their high achievements. However, their collective success is as much theirs as it is that of our faculty members. We have some very enthusiastic, bright and innovative faculty members that are paving the way for the ultimate goal of national and international recognition of our outstanding programs. We urge continued support for our efforts from academia, industry, government, alumni and private interests. We will continue to share our efforts and progress through this site and our newsletters.
