​1.  Is your program accredited?

Yes, the CSD Program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).


2.  What do I need to do to apply to the master's program in CSD at AAMU?

Instructions and information regarding the graduate application process is on the CSD website.


3.  Do you admit on a conditional basis?

No, we do not admit students on a conditional basis.


4.  What are the requirements for admission?

Students must first meet all requirements for admission to the School of Graduate Studies plus the following quantitative criteria:

  • An undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 grading scale).

  •  Graduate Records Examination (GRE) minimum score of 146 (400) on the Verbal portion and 140 (400) on the Quantitative portion is required.

  •  Prospective graduate students applying whose first language is not English require a minimum score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) of 600 (paper- based), 250 (computer-based), or 100 (Internet-based) within two years prior to application. The TOEFL scores must be on file in the Graduate School prior to receipt of the application for graduate study.


Four components of a student’s application are considered:

1.  GPA

2. GRE scores

3.  Recommendations

4. Student’s Statement of Professional Goals and Objectives:

  • Transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work attempted, including junior colleges and community colleges
  • An official copy of scores on the GRE
  • Three letters of recommendation (on departmental or institutional letterhead, preferably from your undergraduate professors – mailed directly to the Graduate Office)
  • A letter, typed by the applicant, expressing a Statement of Professional Goals and Objectives (No specific format required at this time)

6.  Do you accept MAT scores?

No - only GRE scores.


7.  What are your average GPA and GRE scores?

8. How many students do you admit each year?

The number of students admitted each year is limited to ensure quality in both academic instruction and clinical supervision.  The number of students admitted varies, but generally we admit around 18 -25 graduate students each year.  There are two admission dates: April 15th for the Fall, and October 15th for the Spring.


9. Do you admit students into the AAMU Graduate Program from other university programs?

Yes we do; however, there are no set number of positions reserved each year.


10. Are there scholarships/graduate assistantships and financial assistance available?

No, none currently for CSD specifically. However, financial aid is available through the AAMU Financial Aid Office.


11. When are classes offered, and do you offer any on-line classes?

All of our graduate level classes are offered 5:00 p.m. or after.  We do not offer on-line classes; however, a few of our classes are hybrid in design.
