Student Government Association
The Student Government Association is the official representative of all undergraduate students attending Alabama Agricultural & Mechanical University. The purpose of the Student Government Association is to stimulate and develop democracy amongst students, as well as provide a path of communication to promote student interest.

Goals & Responsibilities
AAMU provides a variety of opportunities for students to gain experience in self-government. The SGA is the overall student governing body and is responsible for many of the activities and programs designed and executed by students for students.
To ensure our purpose, the SGA takes on the following responsibilities:
- Empower individuals to serve and to inspire others for the betterment of the community.
- Create a welcoming environment that celebrates individual differences within a context mutual respect.
- Challenge individuals to uphold shared expectations and recognize how their decisions
Mr. Austin Smith
Mr. Austin Smith is a Senior at Alabama A&M University. He is majoring in Civil Engineering. He is also the Student Government Association President and a member of the Alabama A&M University Men’s Tennis Team. On top of that, he is a member of the Gamma Phi chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and a member of Eta Kappa Tau Engineering and Technology Fraternity, Inc.. He works on the civic engagement team and acts as an ambassador for the Andrew Goodman Foundation.
Upon graduation, Smith plans to earn a Juris Doctorate in Environmental Law and become a professional Civil Engineer and Lawyer. He is dedicated to molding the next generation of black leaders.
