F1rst Bulldogs

The F1rst Bulldogs program provides support to first-generation students as they navigate college life.  At Alabama A&M University, first-generation is defined as a student whose parents did not complete a four-year college or university degree.  First-generation students make up about 30% of the university's student population.

F1rst Bulldogs strives to provide a welcoming community for first-generation college students, a campus culture that recognizes and celebrates first-generation student identity as an asset, and a program that intentionally connects first-generation students to faculty, resources, information and experiences that promote academic and personal success from enrollment through graduation.

    First Gen Faculty with Students Being among the first in your family to attend a four-year college brings with it a special set of needs and challenges. AAMU fIrst-generation faculty and staff understand those challenges, and can help first-generation students build the relationships that are central to a positive and successful college experience.

  • F1rst Gen Celebration    

    People on stage.The National First-Generation College Celebration takes place annually on November 8th.  This day commemorates the signing of the Higher Education Act of 1965, which expanded college opportunities for low-income and first-generation populations.  AAMU uses this opportunity to raise awareness of the first-generation college student identity and celebrate their achievements.  A week of events are scheduled.
