Dr. Dana Indihar is a native of Huntsville, Alabama.  She received her doctorate degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Microbiology. Her dissertation work involved using reporter virus technologies to investigate subtype-specific HIV-1 transmission dynamics to human cervical tissue. Dr. Indihar currently serves as an Assistant Professor.  She serves as a Howard Hughes Medical Institute SEA-PHAGES Faculty member, an HBCU-Stanford Medicine Faculty Fellow, a HudsonAlpha CODE Program Facilitator, and an advisor for the Women in Pre-Med Registered Student Organization on campus. She has a passion for mentoring and training students within the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) disciplines, helping them gain both professional development skills and tangible research products.

 

Research Areas of Interest 

Dr. Indihar has her own unique combination wet and dry lab.  On the "wet" side, her lab investigates phage therapy-based approaches to treating bacterial infections in livestock as an alternative to antibiotics.  On the "dry" side, her lab explores the dynamicomes of viral entry proteins using informatic tools.
