Continuing Education Academy
Dr. Turenza Smith-Woods and Dr. LaSharia Turner were entrusted with coordinating and leading training initiatives for social service workers within the Department of Human Resources in the Birmingham Metro Area. Since its inception in 2023, these training programs have grown substantially, expanding their reach and impact.
Alabama A&M University Department of Social Work (Birmingham Location) now offers a range of year-round training opportunities and an annual Social Work Summer Summit. These initiatives support social service professionals and social work students' ongoing professional development, fostering a sense of community and shared learning.
The virtual learning series supports the professional development of social service workers, specifically social workers, in response to the growing need for accessible, flexible, and ongoing education. This series is designed to provide practical tools, up-to-date knowledge, and enhanced skills in areas critical to the evolving demands of the field, ensuring that professionals can continue to provide high-quality services to individuals, families, and communities.

Topic: Healing Hour 2.0 - Building Whole from the Inside Out
Speaker: Forcas Pitman, MHSA, BA
Date: Jan 21, 2026 CST
Time: 12:00 pm to 1:00 PM
Description:
Description: Building Whole from the Inside Out centers on the truth that lasting success—personally, professionally, and spiritually—cannot be built from unhealed places.
As we pursue degrees, careers, callings, and purpose, many of us are building while silently carrying unresolved trauma in our minds, bodies, and spirits. This experience invites students and professionals into a safe, guided space to pause and address what has been ignored, minimized, or buried.
True wholeness is not achieved through performance or productivity, but through real healing—rooted in honesty, transparency, and full surrender to God’s will. When we build from wholeness, what we create has the stability to withstand pressure, setbacks, and the test of time.
Healing Hour 2.0 is an invitation to stop building from survival and start building from a place of alignment, truth, and inner stability.
