About Us

Established in 2024, the Alabama A&M University Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) is housed within the Department of Social Work on the Alabama A&M University campus.

The program aims to tackle Alabama’s significant health challenges and the shortage of healthcare professionals by integrating geriatrics into primary care systems and expanding the availability of skilled geriatric providers. Its efforts focus on improving training for healthcare providers, patients, caregivers, and other professionals, ultimately enhancing health outcomes.

Alabama A&M GWEP collaborates with nursing homes, senior living communities, and hospital systems to achieve these goals.
