Research

Dr. Hossain is a forest ecologist by training, with a research focus in quantitative silviculture. His research broadly addresses the ecological impacts of disturbances, both natural and human-caused, on forests with an emphasis on forest regeneration and stand dynamics under active forest management. Over the course of his career, Dr. Hossain had the opportunity to study the ecology and silviculture of different forest types across the eastern and southern US. Consequently, he has developed a strong interest in applied research evaluating effects of silviculture on the structure, composition, and dynamics of different forest types. Dr. Hossain is also interested in addressing emerging impact factors such as climate change, on forests and using this to inform the adoption of silvicultural approaches for mitigating these impacts.
