lease join us in congratulating our DCRP Alumni Association president, Patrice Ruffin Dowdell, AICP, for being elected as the AICP Commissioner Region 2. We are very proud of her accomplishment.

Patrice S. Ruffin Dowdell, Esq., AICP, is an urban planning practitioner, attorney, and municipal administrator with over 18 years of experience gained through a variety of program and leadership positions and community development consulting work with local governments in the southeast. With a focus on the start-up of newly incorporated municipalities, zoning administration, and long-range planning her projects have included land development regulations, special area studies, and consolidated plans. She was appointed as Assistant City Manager of the City of Brookhaven, Georgia in August 2021 after having served as Director of Community Development. Ms. Ruffin Dowdell has earned a juris doctor degree from Georgia State University and bachelor's and master's degrees in urban and regional planning from Alabama A&M University. Ms. Ruffin Dowdell is active in several professional organizations, including the American Planning Association (APA). As a dedicated member of APA and AICP seeking to advance the planning profession, she has held several leadership roles including serving on the Divisions Council Executive Committee and as chair of the Planning & the Black Community Division.

Taelor Boston, a junior in the BSUP program, has been selected to receive a scholarship funded by National Crop Insurance Services (NCIS). She will receive a total of $3,000 that can be used for tuition, fees, books, and other related expenses. Congratulations, Taelor!

The Department of Community and Regional Planning at Alabama A&M University is thrilled with the selection of Samarion Flowers as one of the 2023 White House HBCU Scholars. She is a senior in the Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Planning program. We are very proud of her accomplishments. She will become a great ambassador of our planning discipline at the HBCU Scholars program. Please join us in congratulating her on this prestigious recognition.

Mr. Greene had the distinct honor and privilege of bringing a delegation of President Biden’s appointed administrators (who are also history makers by serving as the first African American heads of their agencies) to his beloved Alma Mater to discuss funding opportunities for the institution.
