My major accomplishment for STEM Day 2023 was the opportunity to present in the presence of my colleagues and distinguish judges. A better outcome is coming second as I did not see it coming. The topic I presented was “The Statistical Analysis of Residential Property Pricing in the Era of Big Data for Cook County, Illinois.
It is almost time to graduate, I am glad I made my way to department filled with love and unity. I am impressed with each student and faculty member I have come in contact with during my study program. On a last note, see you all at the top.  -Zainab Adado

My time in the department of Community and Regional Planning has been full of positive vibes and surprises. The Planning Program has exposed me to diverse ideas and prospects that has built my confidence and perception of life.
I had the opportunity to submit an abstract on “Wastewater Management” which got me a slot to participate in the STEM Day 2023 competition (Oral Presentation). I turned out to be one of the noble prize winners. This was a huge landmark for myself and the planning department. In addition, I became a certified Environmental Justice (EJ) Alumni through the exposure and platform that the Planning Department provided.
The program has equipped me for the present and prepared me for the future.

I remember writing to Dr. Emily Erickson who at the time was the department’s undergraduate advisor, telling her of my intention to be a part of the program and that I was taking a leap of faith. Since starting in the Urban Planning program, I can confidently say that it has been leap well worth it. The professors I have encountered are some of the bests I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. The students too, are always friendly.
At the recent annual STEM Day event 2023, I had the honor of presenting my poster which featured research on “Housing Insecurity During the COVID-19 Pandemic in the state of Alabama”. Amazingly, I was awarded first place in my group. To represent the department in such a way was an absolute pleasure. I am forever grateful to all my professors for helping me to create multiple paths to my desired future.
