Strategic Plan
The Alabama A&M University Rich Heritage Bold Future: 2025–2035 Strategic Plan is the roadmap that builds on momentum and strengthens the University by expanding AAMU's impact and advancing its vision to become the premier 1890 Land-Grant institution.
The previous AAMU "Into the Future" Strategic Plan helped guide a decade of significant progress. In its most recent years, Alabama A&M experienced notable gains in enrollment, academic innovation, infrastructure development, fundraising, research productivity and institutional visibility. The 2025–2035 Strategic Plan builds upon those successes while establishing new systems for accountability, measurement and continuous improvement.
Building The House
At the center of the 2025–2035 Strategic Plan is “The House,” a framework that illustrates how the work happening across Alabama A&M connects to our larger institutional mission. The House is organized around three destinations that define where we are going: Student Success, Research Excellence, and Regional Impact.
Supporting those destinations are strategic priorities focused on transformative student experiences, operational effectiveness, brand visibility and strategic engagement, community partnerships, and research. Together with stronger institutional data and analytics, these priorities create an interconnected structure for moving AAMU forward.
The framework reflects an important principle: every division, department and member of the Bulldog community has a role in building the future of Alabama A&M.
The Next Chapter
Developed through institutional assessment, stakeholder engagement, interviews, think tanks and divisional planning, the 2025–2035 Strategic Plan represents a shared commitment to where Alabama A&M goes next.

Priorities Overview
- Institutional Priority 1: Transformative Experiences to Promote Student Success
AAMU will strengthen the entire student experience—from the classroom to campus life to career preparation. This priority focuses on aligning academic programs with workforce demand, attracting and developing exceptional faculty, strengthening advising and retention, expanding experiential learning and undergraduate research, modernizing residential life, and creating a more integrated student-support ecosystem. The goal is not simply for students to earn degrees, but to graduate prepared, connected and positioned to thrive. - Institutional Priority 2: Operational Effectiveness
A strong University requires strong systems. This priority strengthens the people, processes, technology and physical infrastructure that make AAMU work. The University will focus on attracting and retaining talented employees, improving customer service, modernizing administrative processes, strengthening technology and data governance, enhancing campus safety, and investing in facilities and long-term campus planning. - Institutional Priority 3: Brand Visibility, Marketing & Strategic Engagement
AAMU will strengthen its competitive position by clearly defining—and consistently communicating—the value of the University. This priority expands national and international visibility through integrated marketing, storytelling and advertising while deepening relationships with alumni, donors and corporate partners. It also advances AAMU's creative infrastructure, including expanded in-house production, Crew 75 and a modern broadcast ecosystem, while strengthening fundraising and growing the University’s endowment. - Institutional Priority 4: Community Engagement & Strategic Partnerships
Building upon AAMU's land-grant tradition, this priority extends the University's knowledge, resources and expertise beyond The Hill. AAMU will deepen partnerships with municipalities, schools, nonprofits, industry and communities while integrating service, civic learning and applied problem-solving into academics and research. Through collaboration with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, the University will further advance education, economic mobility, agricultural innovation, environmental stewardship and community well-being. - Institutional Priority 5: Research Excellence
AAMU will elevate its research enterprise by investing in the people, infrastructure and partnerships necessary to produce high-impact scholarship and innovation. Priorities include strengthening laboratories and research facilities, expanding Centers of Excellence, growing government and industry partnerships, increasing faculty and student research opportunities, and building greater visibility for AAMU research. The ultimate measure of research excellence will be both scholarly achievement and the impact of discovery on communities, industries and society.
