Forestry Club

The Alabama A&M Society of American Foresters Student Chapter, also known as the Forestry Club, serves as a cornerstone for students passionate about forestry, wildlife, and conservation careers. They are a recognized student chapter of the Society of American Foresters (SAF). The Forestry Club is an active student organization for students who are interested in careers in natural resources or just enjoy the outdoors.

Mission

  • Hands-on professional development: Through workshops, timber-sport competitions, field trips, and research, members deepen their skills in forestry management, ecosystem health, and wildlife science.
  • Inclusivity and community: The club actively engages new members, including those with no prior outdoor experience, by fostering mentorship, equity, and access to opportunities often limited in underrepresented communities.

Activities

  • Members of the Forestry Club participate in on-campus activities like the homecoming parade and they host off-campus events like field tours, hiking, and camping. They are active in their community by volunteering for trail cleanups and participating in Earth Day activities.
  • The Forestry Club regularly prepares for the Southern Forestry Conclave, a collegiate competition featuring physical events and technical challenges.
  • In partnership with the AAMU Wildlife Society, Delta Waterfowl, and Georgia Wildlife Federation, the club offers Hunting 101 and post-hunt processing.
  • Members can join the FireDawgs, a wildland firefighting squad who engage in prescribed burns, wildlife suppression, and community outreach.
