External Partners & Community
- How does RED connect with government agencies and other universities?
RED collaborates with external partners through funded research projects, consortiums, and national initiatives. - How can businesses or organizations collaborate with AAMU researchers?
AAMU welcomes partnerships in key areas, including defense, aerospace, cybersecurity, sustainable energy sources, food production, and emerging biotechnologies. AAMU-RISE is your first point of contact for beginning an AAMU research partnership. - What kinds of research projects does RED support?
At AAMU’s state-of-the-art campus laboratories and centers, faculty and researchers drive innovation in four emerging research streams: Biology and Agriculture, Computer Science and Analysis, Materials Science and Engineering, and Technology Development and Transfer. - Can local organizations or schools partner with RED for outreach or STEM programs?
Yes, RED regularly partners with schools, nonprofits, and community groups to deliver STEM outreach and educational opportunities through RED and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System at AAMU. - Who should I contact if I’m interested in forming a partnership with AAMU?

Faculty & Staff
- What types of research support does RED provide for faculty?
RED helps faculty identify funding opportunities, prepare proposals, manage awards, and stay compliant with regulations. - How do I apply for external research funding through RED?
You can work with the Office of Sponsored Programs, which assists with proposal development, budget preparation, and submission. - What is the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), and how can it help me?
OSP is your main contact for external grants and contracts. The office ensures that proposals meet sponsor and university requirements. - Are there training opportunities for faculty on grant writing or compliance?
Yes. RED offers workshops, webinars, and one-on-one sessions to strengthen proposal writing and compliance skills. - Who do I contact if I need help with research compliance or ethics (IRB, IACUC, etc.)?
The Office of Research Compliance (ORC) provides guidance and support for all compliance matters, including human and animal research.
Students
- How can undergraduate and graduate students get involved in research projects?
Students can join faculty-led projects, apply for research internships, or participate in special programs and summer opportunities. - Does RED provide funding or internships for student researchers?
Yes, RED supports student research through fellowships, assistantships, and internship opportunities with federal and industry partners. - What is Responsible Conduct of Research training, and do I need to complete it?
It’s a program that teaches ethical research practices. Many students working on funded projects are required to complete it. - Are there opportunities for students to present their research at conferences or events?
Absolutely. Students can showcase their work at campus symposiums, national conferences, and events supported by RED. - How does student research connect to workforce development and career readiness?
Research builds critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical skills—making students more competitive in today’s job market.
