Staff & Faculty Wireless Connection Guide

This document explains how Staff and Faculty can connect their devices to the AAMU-CampusNet wireless network which will offer you AAMU network resources as a replacement for Eduroam.

AAMU-CampusNet uses secure, encrypted enterprise authentication (802.1X). Your normal AAMU credentials are used; no shared password is required.

What You Need Before You Start

  • An active AAMU Staff or Faculty account
  • Your AAMU username and password (or approved passwordless/MFA method if prompted)
  • A device running one of the supported operating systems:
    • Windows 10 / 11
    • macOS
    • iOS (iPhone / iPad)
    • Android

Note: If your password has expired or your account is locked, you will not be able to connect.

Network Details (For Reference)

  • SSID: AAMU-CampusNet          
  • Security Type: WPA2/WPA3-Enterprise (802.1X)
  • Authentication: AAMU credentials
  • Encryption: AES

You do not need to manually enter these settings unless prompted.

Connecting on Windows 10 / Windows 11

  1. Click the Wi‑Fi icon in the system tray.
  2. Select AAMU-CampusNet from the list of available networks.
  3. Click Connect.
  4. When prompted, enter your AAMU username and password.
  5. If a security certificate prompt appears:
    • Verify the server name references AAMU
    • Click Connect or Accept
  6. Once connected, you should see Connected, secured under AAMU-CampusNet.

Tip: If prompted for a username format, use: “first name.last name”

Connecting on macOS

  1. Click the Wi‑Fi icon in the menu bar.
  2. Select AAMU-CampusNet.
  3. Enter your AAMU username and password.
  4. When prompted to trust a certificate:
    • Confirm it is issued to an AAMU authentication server
    • Click Continue
  5. If asked, enter your macOS login password to save the network.

You are now connected.

Connecting on iPhone / iPad (iOS)

  1. Open SettingsWi‑Fi.
  2. Select AAMU-CampusNet.
  3. Enter your AAMU username and password.
  4. Tap Join.
  5. If prompted to trust a certificate, tap Trust.

The Wi‑Fi icon will appear once connected.

Connecting on Android

  1. Open SettingsNetwork & InternetWi‑Fi.
  2. Select AAMU-CampusNet.
  3. Configure the network if prompted:
    • EAP Method: PEAP
    • Phase 2 Authentication: MSCHAPV2
    • CA Certificate: Use system certificates (or Do not validate, if required)
    • Identity: Your AAMU username
    • Password: Your AAMU password
  4. Tap Connect.

Once connected, the Wi‑Fi status will show as secured.

Common Issues & Troubleshooting

Unable to Connect

  • Verify your AAMU account is active
  • Ensure your password is correct and not expired
  • Forget the network and reconnect

Certificate Warning

  • Confirm the certificate references AAMU
  • Do not accept certificates from unknown or suspicious sources

Still Having Problems?

Forget “known” network, restart your device and try again. If the issue continues, contact IT Support.

Prohibited Activities: 1. Illegal Activities: - Uploading or downloading copyrighted material without authorization. - Accessing or distributing child pornography or other illegal content. 2. Security Violations: - Hacking, cracking, or attempting to evade or disable security measures. - Spreading malware, viruses, or malicious software. 3. Network Disruption: - Activities that disrupt or degrade the performance of the network, such as DDoS attacks or mass emailing (spamming). 4. Unauthorized Use: - Using someone else's login credentials. - Hosting unauthorized business or commercial activities. By connecting to Alabama A&M University's wireless networks, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Internet Usage Policy, and you agree to abide by its terms and conditions.
