Windows 11 Upgrade
Our records show that you are in possession of a university device that is still running Windows 10.
As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance security, performance, and overall user experience, IT Services is deploying the Windows 11 upgrade to devices that are still running Windows 10..
Beginning April 14, 2026 the Windows 11 update will automatically download in the background to your computer. The installation will require a system restart to complete the process. We will send up a follow up email to let you know when to restart your machine after the process has completed .
What to Expect
- The upgrade will not remove your files or personal data.
- The installation process may take some time and could require multiple restarts.
- You may continue working during the download, but we recommend saving your work frequently.
Important Recommendations
- Back up your important files to Microsoft OneDrive prior to installing the update. While your data should remain intact, backing up ensures an extra layer of protection.
- Please note: Files stored in your Downloads folder are not automatically backed up to OneDrive. We recommend moving any important files from Downloads into your OneDrive folders (such as Documents or Desktop) before proceeding with the update.
- Please ensure your device is connected to power and connected to the internet during the update.
Why This Upgrade Matters
Windows 10 is end-of-life and is no longer receiving critical security updates so it is causing security vulnerabilities in our environment.. Upgrading to Windows 11 helps protect your device and university data while providing improved performance and new features.
Known Considerations
Some devices may require additional preparation before upgrading (such as freeing up storage space or resolving system partition limitations). Our IT team is actively monitoring these cases and will follow up as needed.
If you believe you have received this message in error or need assistance with the upgrade, please put in a ticket indicating that you received this error message.
