Dr. Florina Dutt
Dr. Florina Dutt is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Community and Regional Planning at Alabama A&M University. Her research and teaching focus on Social Equity in Urban Planning. She has a unique approach to addressing social equity issues, such as the health and well-being of urbanites, through the lens of computational social science methods.
Dr. Dutt received her doctoral degree from the City and Regional Planning School at Georgia Institute of Technology. Her doctoral research assessed the influence of the built environment on people’s mental well-being, incorporating ideas of mental health in designing smart cities and sustainable development. She worked with the Center for Spatial Planning Analytics and Visualization (CSPAV) at Georgia Tech where she was involved in multiple research projects used applied machine learning techniques in processing large-scale social media data and application of GIS automation techniques for analyzing fine grain-built environment data. Before beginning her research career at Georgia Tech, she had worked as Urban Designer and Architect in India, China, and the United States.
