ABHS Student Story

  1. Internship Requirements
    1. Students must have and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.7 or greater
    2. Students must complete and have on file with Dr. Dalrymple the following documents prior to starting their internship:
    3. Application
    4. Insurance Waiver Form
    5. Students are required to have the evaluation form completed by their site mentor for submission to Dr. Vizcarra and Dr. Dalrymple at the end of their rotation
    6. Students will be expected to present on their internship experience after completing their rotation in a seminar format
    7. Students are expected to complete a final report (at least 500 words) and submitted by the end of the internship.
    8. Keep up-to-date records, reports and documentation related to the work that is performed during your internship.
    9. Students must complete an ‘End of Rotation’ survey that will help to improve the ABHS Internship experience.
  2. Internship Benefits
    1. Student can earn a stipend from the ABHS program
    2. $20/h
    3. Minimum of 100 hours
    4. Maximum of 200 hours
    5. Student can receive credit for partial fulfillment of FAS 491
    6. Students will gain hands-on experience

    2. Bentley Animal Hospital
    3. Huntsville Veterinary Specialist & Emergency
    4. Animal Care Clinic
    5. Midtown Veterinary Hospital
    6. FDA
    7. Tuskegee University
    8. Doctors in Italy
  4. Students Commitment to the ABHS Internship
    1. ABHS students are expected to commit to their internship assignment.
    2. Students are asked not to take a spot another student could have received.
    3. Students are expected to maintain an open communication with their site mentor, Dr. Dalrymple, and Dr. Vizcarra for any changes that may arise.
    4. Students must attend all scheduled dates for their internship.
    5. Excessive absence can result in one or all of the following: removal from the internship, stipend retracted, no possibility of another internship placement.
    6. Students must be on time for their internships.
    7. Excessive tardiness can lead to any or all of the outcomes listed above.
    8. Students should take this opportunity seriously, just like your employment.
    9. Partnerships created with the external partners take time and effort. The negative actions created can jeopardize future opportunities for other students in the program.
    10. Always maintain a professional and positive behavior and attitude.
    11. It is the student’s responsibility to find out from their site mentor appropriate clothing to wear to each site.
