Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University (AAMU) acknowledges that on May 2, 2020, the institution signed and returned to the U.S. Department of Education the Certification and Agreement form. AAMU has used, or intends to use, at least 50% of the funds received under section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide HEER Funded AAMU CARES Grants to students.

Additional reports will be provided every 45 days.

  • The total amount of HEERF funding that AAMU received to distribute to students is $4,560,600. AAMU will distribute the amount awarded to students over three semesters; Spring 2020, Summer 2020 and Fall 2020

  • The total amount of HEERF funded AAMU CARES Grants that have been distributed to AAMU:

  • The estimated total number of AAMU students at the institution eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and therefore eligible to receive an Emergency CARES Grant is 4,868.

  • The total number of students who have received a AAMU CARES Grant is 4,398.

AAMU is using one student application to be considered for the federal HEERF funding (AAMU CARES Grant).

To be eligible for a HEERF funded AAMU CARES Grant a student must:

  1. Complete the AAMU Emergency Grant Application available with the following link :  Apply for CARES Act Funding
  2. Have a completed FAFSA for 2019-2020  
  3. Have a declared major that is eligible for financial aid 
  4. Be enrolled in Spring 2020 for at least 1 credit hour on or after March 13, when the national emergency was declared
  5. Making Satisfactory Academic Progress during Spring 2020 
  6. Be a citizen or eligible non-citizen 

The maximum HEERF funded AAMU CARES Grant award made to a student is based on the requested amount and the student’s Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the current aid year FAFSA. The awards will be distributed to students for the Spring 2020, Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters.

Students are directed to their AAMU student portal to complete the application. The application is only available to students enrolled in the current term.
